48 Days To Creative Income, Day 1
And so it begins….
Today was a perfect reminder of why I want to move beyond the day job into some new more meaningful and life-friendly environment. Faced with multiple issues and problems, all of which were solved or explained quickly and easily, the day ground to a “if it were not so stupid, I’d cry” moment. Having not been invited to any meetings about my newly assigned project, haven’t not been informed of any specifics, having had a project schedule defined by the Vice-President (who had not even mentioned the project to me), having not passed any of the technical aspects to two different committees who are now designated as the “everything must pass through us” people……I was asked how the project was proceeding. When I laughed, I was told “but you have a deadline”.
Thus another reason why I must work hard to quit the day job.
About 3 to 4 years ago, during a rough time in the wife’s employment, and a difficult one in mine, I went looking for an extra source of income. I didn’t want to take the conventional second job. As a devotee of The Dave Ramsey show, I had heard him advertise and/or talk about man named Dan Miller and his “48 days” programs. Dan Miller had two programs at the time: 48 Days to the Work You Love and 48 Days to Creative Income. I chose the latter because I didn’t really want to change careers (I didn’t then), I just needed extra money.
The program was purchased and received. Although less than impressed with the physical aspect of the material, more on that below, I diligently worked though the product. At the end, I didn’t have much to show for it and I set aside the material and promised myself I would sell it on eBay. I never got around to it.
So now that I am working hard on Quitting the Day Job, I thought it a perfect time to revisit 48 Days and see if I can be more motivated to actually create some income.
Materials
First off I was absolutely struck by the amateurish packaging and presentation of the material. Essentially it is single sided photocopied sheet, put into a white binder that most likely came from Office Depot. The color cover insert is the most professional looking part of the manual itself.
The single sided photo copied sheets (yes I know, minimum cost to the producer, but come on…) are printed in a variety of fonts. One of which looks very similar to Comic Sans MS. NOT the kind of font you want in professional documentation. I think the point was to make it almost a “this is a letter to a friend” less than a “this is a professionally made document”. The effect was lost on me. It looked too “home made”. The manual as a whole is serviceable, but I think more attention should have been paid to the presentation.
The Audio CDs that come with the program however look absolutely professional. I have zero issues with them.
As part of the “service” of having purchased the 48 Days To Creative Income program, you are (or were) entitled to a weekly newsletter with weekly “tips and news”. Long ago my spam filter must of stopped this. I don’t miss it. But I may need to resubscribe.
Schedule
The heart of the program is the 48 day schedule. Strangely this is listed in Appendix E, with your only indication to use it being one line in a prologue.
A positive about the schedule is that it is laid out with very easy, very attainable goals for each day. The toughest at first glance may be the fact that only 2 days are given to reading through the entire manual. While the manual is only 116 pages, with work and family time filling the schedule, that will be the tough squeeze.
Each Day in the 48 Days is laid out in the schedule. Some with very clear instructions: Day #2/3 Listen to 48 Days to Creative Income tape (haha, I have a CD, tape, that is so 90’s). or Day #11 Discuss Time and Effort vs. Results based economy with someone you trust. Some with very nebulous instructions: Day #21 What business fits you? or Day #31 Talk to others who are already doing what you want to do.
But today is Day 1 and I’ve actually posted more about the program above than what I’m suppose to really do for Day 1.
Day #1: Review this schedule. See yourself completing all steps on Schedule as outlined.
Ok. Ive done that. And I’ve laid out some of my concerns. Especially about how some items lack clear direction. Note the visualization technique in Day #1. Shouldn’t I picture myself surrounded by money too? Or is that Day #49?
My upcoming next 4 days look relatively easy, and I will update Quitting the Day Job with my progress.
Rather than lay out the full schedule here are the next 4 days:
Day #2: Listen to 48 Days to Creative Income
Day #3: Same as Day #2
Day #4: Do quick reading of 48 Days to Creative Income.
Day #5 Same as Day #4
Now, let’s get to work and get some cash.

I’m always skeptical about these courses, but then I have a general distrust of anything until I’ve done it myself. Good luck, it will be interesting to read your progress!
I remember being under impressed the first time I went through. To many mottoes and sayings.
Today is audiobook listening, but I forgot to listen this a.m.!
5 Years out of date information? I’d rather just start from scratch lol
Theoretically, the best information is never out of date.
We aren’t talking about technology for example so we aren’t seeing “now load your Win98 diskettes”, although the tape statement was close.
This is more generalized in thought processes and action items.
I see what u mean, but still, some things have changed
Good luck though
