48 Days To Creative Income Audio Book Part 2

48 Days To Creative Income, Day 3

Every day at the day job is a cornucopia of reasons to find a way out

Day 3: Listen to 48 Days to Creative Income (cd) continued

As I continued to listen to the cd for this program I was struck by several things.

First on the production side, Dan Miller does a very fair job with is recitation.  But it does sound almost like the entire audio book was knocked off in one setting.  The fact that it also is just on one audio track is extremely annoying.  Especially since the first CD is 41 minutes and the second 50 minutes.  But those are minor annoyances.

Secondly, I didn’t realize just how old these recording were.  My clue was the fact that he mentions Rick Pitino the “coach of the Boston Celtics”.  Ouch.  Pitino has not been there in years.   Now I don’t remember when I first heard these CDs but they still could have been produced a very long time ago.  Once again as stated in yesterday’s post, it’s the ideas  that are more important than anything else.

Which brings us to content.

This course seems geared toward a single type of individual or maybe two types.  A person who wants to start a traditional “small business” or a person with the “salesperson” mentality.  Now I’m not bashing anyone, but if you are NOT a salesperson and you have been around a person who is….you know they can be very aggressive, very assertive, very sure of themselves and in many cases ignorant of reality.

There are concepts though that can apply to any of us seeking creative income.  Specifically the concept that technological advances make the possibilities of self employment or creation of extra income much more likely.  ABSOLUTELY TRUE.  It is definitely true from the sense that a small business person can start a traditional brick and mortar business, yet still for a very small investment have an international presence thanks to the internet.  Thanks to cell phones, you don’t have to be at your desk to get your messages and there are no “after hours”.

For those of you reading this blog, you know for sure that the internet can provide extra income and that is exactly what many of us trolling the internet are trying to do.  Whether from blogs, Amazon stores, eBay or Google Ads.  These sources of income just were NOT available just a few years ago.  I know that thanks to CafePress, I personally have seen sales/income achieved 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week, 52 Weeks a year across the United States.  Same is true for those Google Ads you see over there….there…over there…click on those if you feel like it!!!!  There…

The CDs however seemed really geared to the person trying to start a small business.  After a while I was lulled into almost a trance.  The combination of small business basics and the constant quotes by “noted authors” or speakers that I’d never heard of: “Joe Smith says this about Inspiration….” Zzzzzzzzzz.

Dan Miller does break down the potential “jobs” and talks about  the various ways of making money.  And I do agree he is dead on about one thing.  The “traditional job” is dead.  Companies don’t care about you as a worker or how many years you have in, or even your knowledge.  It’s all about producing.  But Producing for “the man”.  Obviously, we don’t want to do that anymore.  But if you are working for the “man”, be rest assured, he sees you as an expendable commodity.  Unless you are adding to the bottom line, you are an expense.

Dan Miller coins a phrase of “Eaglepreneur” to describe excelling Entrepreneurs.  This of course is classic “sales” type of mentality.  You can almost hear the “bell” going off in the background signalling a sale!!!  He extolls you to produce because all you have to do is do something “10% better”.  Maybe, but seriously I know I don’t care about doing something “10% better”.  I care about doing something I really enjoy and something that will give me some monetary satisfaction.

He ends up the CD with some very dated ideas about newsletters and mail order business items.  Following that are some very superficial discussions of S corporations, LLC, “doing business as”, etc.

I’m only on day #3, and though I’m looking for ideas,  I’m thinking that this material might be gear toward the Stephen Covey crowd.  The Zig Ziglar followers.   The Sales-heads.

I’m not sure I’m one of those.  But, there are 45 days left.  Much could still be gleaned.
