Is Your Job Toxic?

This is a question of a book on career changes that I partially read.

At the time I was eating my lunch, alone, in my car.  My answer was a resounding yes.

The question was asked in the context of “Should you quit your job?”

I went down the usual list of yes/no type of questions but stopped on this one and it really made me think.  Sure I hate coming in.  I hate dealing with situations I can’t control, where people make horrible decisions and then stand by them.  Where people who skills are suspect at best are highly valued by management.

My answer was yes, but why?

More than anything else, my job is toxic because of the effect it has on my family.  Though I try to be zen and let the emotions turn to nothing, the frustration of the job eats like a cancer inside.  It causes me to be short tempered and harsh. It causes me to lose sleep because of the days frustrations swirling around in my head.

Is your job Toxic?  Is it poisoning your relationships and thoughts?

If so, then it is time to do something about it.

Glad you made it out of the suburbs alive to tell the tale!

My job is not toxic, in that it’s not going to kill me, it pays well, the atmosphere is even very relaxed. In fact I think a lot of people would love to have my job, but it’s just not what I want to do for the rest of my life. That’s why I’m continuing to experiment with making money by alternative means.

You, my friend, are among the minority. Cherish that job.
